Candidate Bios

Candidate Statement: I want to run for ACP Governor of New Jersey to help our chapter lead through the intertwined challenges of clinical care, physician well being, and climate and environmental change. My work with ACP has focused on climate and health advocacy—including drafting sustainability legislation, testifying and meeting with policymakers, writing op eds, and helping colleagues translate science into practice and policy. I also bring experience as an educator and researcher, and as a collaborator with other chapters and governors on climate, equity, and professionalism initiatives. As Governor, I would prioritize practical tools for members, stronger advocacy in Trenton, and inclusive mentorship that elevates diverse voices across practice settings and career stages. I am running because I believe ACP NJ can be a national leader in building sustainable, equitable, climate informed care for our patients and communities.

Present Employment Position: Professor of Medicine, Cooper University Health Care

ACP Chapter and Leadership Activities: I have been Chair of the HPP Committee and have led the ACP Leadership Day delegation several consecutive years. I led a task force appointed by the state senator of Health and Human Services on sustainability in healthcare. That white paper was drafted into legislation which is now introduced in the House and the Senate. It is part of the toolkit for Advocacy on ACP's main website. I have lectured at the annual meeting in Princeton and brought our resident-led research to the annual meeting, as I serve as Associate Program Director for the IM residency at Cooper University Health Care. I have drafted several resolutions through the HPPC and have collaborated with governors from other chapters.

ACP National Activities: Fellowship 2005; I have lectured for two years at the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting on topics of wellbeing, climate health, and sustainability. I have created additional content for wellbeing. I have also worked with ABIM through the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health (MSCCH) to position climate health questions on future board exams and have served as a liaison between MSCCH and ACP.

Other Appointments/Activities: I am president of the Camden County Air Quality Committee. I lead the Education Committee and Climate-Smart Health Care Committee for MSCCH. Candidate Statement: As healthcare continues to evolve, primary care remains the foundation of effective, accessible, and patient-centered medicine. However I believe strongly that we must continue to advocate for policies and professional environments that support internists practicing in outpatient, inpatient and academic settings. I have had the privilege of participating with the Governors Council, where I gained insight into the priorities and challenges facing our diverse membership. Serving as chapter treasurer has given me an important understanding of the chapter’s financial structure and operations, and an appreciation for responsible stewardship, experience with long-term planning, an and the sensitivity need to balance innovation with fiscal responsibility. The future of healthcare depends on attracting talented and compassionate physicians to this essential field. By creating stronger connections between practicing physicians, trainees, and academic institutions, we can inspire the next generation of internists and provide them with the support they need to thrive.
