ACP remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting evidence-based immunization practices. By developing rigorous clinical recommendations, leading advocacy efforts about vaccine-related issues, and supporting members with the tools they need to guide patients toward informed decisions, ACP reaffirms that protecting patients through vaccination is not only a matter of science but also a matter of public trust.  

Clinical Recommendations 

ACP supports the independently developed immunization schedules of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG)

An ACP editorial calls for vaccine recommendations to be guided by scientific evidence and expert review, not political influence. The authors, Jason M. Goldman, MD, MACP, immediate past president of ACP, and Robert H. Hopkins, MD, MACP, and Kristin M. Mitchell, MD, FACP, chair and vice-chair of ACP's Immunization Subcommittee, state that ACP and other medical specialty societies will continue to fill the void left by the current administration and provide evidence-based, data-driven recommendations for physicians and patients.

Advocacy 

As federal vaccine policy wavers, ACP stands behind evidence-based immunization recommendations and calls for vaccine recommendations to be guided by scientific evidence and expert review, not political influence.

ACP is alarmed by the actions that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Trump administration have taken to cast doubt on vaccines, restrict access to vaccines, and contribute to confusion and misinformation about vaccines. ACP has called for the removal of Secretary Kennedy from office in concern for the health and well-being of Americans. ACP filed a lawsuit against Secretary Kennedy along with other medical organizations to stop the assault on public health. The lawsuit successfully blocked changes to the immunization schedule and stayed the appointment of the new members to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). ACP has raised concerns about the turmoil at the CDC putting lives at risk, spoke against HHS pulling mRNA vaccine research, urged Congress to reinstate and support the traditional functioning of ACIP and its role, committee members, and activities, and to provide rigorous, bipartisan oversight of the recent changes at CDC as well as to the vaccine infrastructure. 

ACP also spoke against the plans to end vaccine mandates in Florida, discontinue the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in New Hampshire, and alter the childhood vaccine schedule. Additionally, ACP joined more than 130 organizations in a statement of alarm over proposed changes to the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices charter.
