The Frozen Frontier: Comparing Oxygenated vs Non-Oxygenated Hypothermic Machine Perfusion in Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation— A National Cohort Analysis

Given the growing interest in oxygenated preservation and the limited national data evaluating its real-world impact, this study sought to compare post-transplant outcomes between kidneys preserved with standard hypothermic non-oxygenated machine perfusion (HNOMP) and those preserved with hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOMP).

Infectious disease medicine is the subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on diagnosing and managing infections. Although most common infections are treated by general internal medicine physicians and other specialty physicians, internal medicine physicians practicing infectious disease medicine are frequently called upon to help diagnose unknown infections and assist in managing difficult, unusual, or complicated infections.

Advocacy Update

ACP Joins Utah Medical Licensing Board in Calling for Reevaluation of the State's AI Prescription Pilot Program

Thanks to advocacy efforts from the Utah chapter of the American College of Physicians, Utah State Medical Board and other physician groups, the Utah Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy is reevaluating the implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI) prescribing pilot program in the state.

Through a “regulatory sandbox” that allows state officials to waive laws for AI companies, the Utah Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy allowed testing of an AI chatbot, Doctronic, that promises faster and cheaper prescription refills for close to 200 drugs without a physician appointment.

When the Physician Becomes a Candidate

The 2026 election cycle is seeing a record number of physicians running for office. Although physicians have long participated in politics, the sheer number of medically trained candidates running for U.S. Congress this year suggests that physician-politicians are having a moment. The author of this commentary, a former Congressional candidate, believes that physicians are drawn to politics by the same impulses that drew them to medicine: service, problem solving, and a belief that individual lives can be improved through collective action.
