Get Improvement Activity credit for 2018 and Apply to participate in CMS’ 2018 Burdens Associated with Reporting Quality Measures Study
CMS is studying the burdens associated with reporting quality measures for physicians participating in MIPS in 2018. They are looking to:
- Study clinical workflows and data collection methods using different submission systems.
- Understand the challenges you have when you collect and report quality data.
- Recommend changes to try to lower your burden, improve quality data collection and reporting, and enhance clinical care.
Physicians can apply for the study if they are a MIPS-eligible clinician participating in MIPS as an individual or as part of a group. (Check MIPS participation status.) Eligible physicians, who participate successfully in the study, will earn full credit for the 2018 MIPS Improvement Activities performance category. CMS is taking applications for this study through March 23, 2018. The study runs from April 2018 to March 2019. Eligible participants will be notified by email in spring 2018 if selected. Start your application. For more information about the study, please email: MIPS_Study@abtassoc.com.
MIPS Reporting Deadlines Fast Approaching
Deadlines are fast approaching if you plan to submit data for the 2017 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance period. Don’t wait until the last minute to submit your data. Submit early and often.
CMS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Policy for the 2017 MIPS Performance Period
CMS has created a hardship exception policy for the Quality Payment Program (QPP) 2017 performance period for physicians who are located in areas affected by the California wildfires and Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate. Under the extreme and uncontrollable circumstances exception, eligible clinicians (ECs) will automatically receive a neutral payment adjustment for MIPS for the 2017 performance period if they do not submit data. No action is required. CMS will identify ECs based on the location listed in PECOS. ECs in these areas who choose to submit MIPS data will be scored and be eligible to earn any payment adjustments associated with their performance. This automatic exception applies to MIPS ECs only – participants in alternative payment models (APMs) in QPP are not covered by this policy. ECs who do not qualify for the automatic hardship exception must submit 2017 MIPS data between January 2 and March 31, 2018, to avoid a negative 4 percent payment adjustment in 2019.CMS has posted a fact sheet with additional information on the policy including the specific localities that are covered. For questions on this policy, CMS can be contacted at 1-866-288-8292 (TTY 1-877-715-6222), Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM-8:00 PM ET or by email at: QPP@cms.hhs.gov.
