You are here
Welcome to the web site for the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Physicians. We hope you'll drop in often, both at our Chapter web site, and at the national ACP web site.
ACP, founded in 1915, is our nation's largest medical specialty organization. Its membership has grown to 159,000 internists, including general internists, internal medicine sub-specialists, medical residents, medical students and affiliate members such as physician assistants. In 1998, ACP merged with the American Society of Internal Medicine to form a stronger, unified voice for internal medicine. ACP has international membership as well, with active chapters in Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, Saudi Arabia, and Japan.
This organization works hard to support the physician-patient relationship and the profession of internal medicine. We see increasing diversification among our members, and importantly, among the leadership, that is more reflective of medicine and our society today. There is an increased use of the power of the Internet and e-mail for information sharing, including links to legislative/advocacy-related web sites, interactive educational programs that can be used by members at home, information on National and local meetings sponsored by ACP, and important practice management tools and resources.
As governor of the Delaware Chapter, I am to represent the concerns of our membership to the medical leadership and national staff of ACP, and to assure that our chapter continues to host high quality educational and advocacy-related programs for its members. I encourage our membership to express their opinions to me regarding their educational needs, political concerns, and problems (or solutions) they encounter in the care of their patients. Our chapter cannot function without the involvement of its members. If you would like to become involved in the committees and leadership of the chapter, or if you would like to express an opinion that could be shared at the national level, please don't hesitate to contact me.
