Building Trust and Relationships at ACP's Internal Medicine Meeting 2026

“How do we begin to rebuild trust? How do we begin to get better information to more people around the country and around the world? I think that is one of the most urgent issues because we can come up with the best scientific advances and cure diseases, but if people don't trust them and people don't engage with them, they're not going to be effective.”
—Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH
The importance of building relationships and trust was a key theme that emerged during ACP's annual Internal Medicine Meeting last month in San Francisco, CA. ACP was honored to welcome Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH, Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center at Harvard's Kennedy School, as the opening ceremony speaker on Thursday, April 16. Dr. Jha's talk, “Clinical Leadership and Trust in the Age of Information Chaos,” drew on his global expertise in health policy, crisis leadership, and the future of public health. Over the course of the meeting, we witnessed ACP members bridging connections, finding support and opportunities, and igniting new inspiration. Our Well-being Team was so happy to see so many of you all once again this year at the Career and Professional Development Center and at the Well-being Fun Zone! We look forward to seeing many more at next year's meeting in Los Angeles, CA!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As stated in this I.M. Matters from ACP article, physicians have long had a basic understanding that caring for mental health is as essential to and as important as caring for physical health. Mental well-being starts with the basics: taking care of yourself and your body. Quality rest is one of the most important—and elusive—parts of daily health. A calming nighttime routine can help you detach from stress, quiet a busy mind, and wind down. It's no secret that taking care of your health, whether mental or physical, takes a lot of hard work, time, and energy. While physicians are no strangers to hard work, it's the time and energy that can be elusive. So, for this month's I.M. Thriving, we've provided you with some quick pointers.
