Joshua C. Ranum, MD, FACP, ACP Governor

Greetings and I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer.

It's too nice to sit inside and read a newsletter, so this edition will be brief.

Congratulations to all the UND SMHS graduates. Eleven students matched into internal medicine; 4 of these into the Fargo program. This is a strong endorsement of the work that the community IM faculty is doing.

Congratulations also to Erik Heitkamp who was selected by the students as the Outstanding Physician-Teacher of the Southeast Campus.

Congratulations are also in order for the graduating residents. ACP membership is very beneficial for early career physicians – strong professional contacts and support, ACP resources for early career physicians, peer coaching, contract review, and MKSAP learning are just some of the outstanding benefits ACP offers its members. If you are moving out of state and would like an introduction to your new ACP chapter, please let me know and I can facilitate a warm handoff with your new chapter.

Our chapter will be voting on the new governor-elect in a few months. The ACP allows me to inform members of the two candidates a month before the election opens so stay tuned for more candidate information.

Finally, the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust has granted $27.4 million dollars to help 69 North Dakota hospitals and health centers purchase 215 ultrasound imaging devices and train the state's sonography workforce. Many of you are well-versed in POCUS and utilize it every week. For those that are interested in learning more, the North Dakota Chapter is collaborating with the Prairie Provinces Chapter (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba) to offer a Basic Applications of POCUS class on Septmber 16th or September 17th (it is a one day course with offerings on either day). This will be held in Hettinger – the Prairie Provinces Governor Dr. Irene Ma is one of the world's experts in point of care ultrasound. This course is a great opportunity to get into POCUS or enhance your skills. Email me at acpnd1@gmail.com if interested or have questions about the course curriculum.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any ideas you have for the ACP chapter.
