International Membership Details

The diverse ACP international membership extends across the globe, with members from more than 165 countries. In addition, ACP has a local presence with established chapters in Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Chile, Colombia, India, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela.

ACP operates on an anniversary-based membership cycle for post-residency members. New members will be renewed annually based on their join date. Resident and medical students operate on a July 1 to June 30 membership year. Dues are not pro-rated. A special introductory dues rate may be offered to new Members when they first join. The allocation of chapter dues are waived for newly elected members. Upon membership renewal, annual dues will include fees to support both the national ACP and the members local chapter (if applicable). Chapter dues rates vary by chapter; therefore, the dues rate that a new member will be charged at the first renewal will be dependent upon the chapter to which they belong. Dues are subject to change.

Renewing Members

ACP operates on an anniversary-based membership cycle. Memberships are renewed annually based on previous renewal date. Dues are subject to change. Membership in ACP includes membership in ACP national, your local ACP state/regional chapter (where applicable), and ACP Services. A portion of your dues supports each entity. Members may not opt out of any of these entities. Chapter dues rates vary by chapter; therefore, the dues rate that a new member will be charged at the first renewal will be dependent upon the chapter to which they belong.

Full Member

Physicians who reside in a region with an ACP chapter, and who are certified in internal medicine, a combined program, or in neurology are eligible for ACP Membership. If not certified, physicians may submit proof that they completed training in a post-graduate medical residency program in internal medicine, a combined program or in neurology. Certification in internal medicine is required for physicians living in Canada and Japan.

*Physicians who are not certified in internal medicine, a combined program, or in neurology and who reside outside of an ACP Chapter, please submit a Membership Sponsoring Form with your New Member application. Please contact Member and Product Support at help@acponline.org with any questions.

Physician Affiliate

Physicians holding a current active medical license who graduated from a medical school found in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and who are not trained in internal medicine are eligible to apply for Physician Affiliate membership.

Physician Affiliate membership is not available to physicians living in Japan.

If you are a medical student enrolled in a medical school included in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), you are eligible to join the American College of Physicians.
