While the performance measure is well-specified, there is insufficient evidence to support the benefits of osteoporosis screening to prevent osteoporotic fractures in men. The developer has also incorrectly stated that obtaining a DXA study is part of the “Welcome to Medicare Exam” for both men and women (8). Additionally, there is currently no reliability or validity testing available to support this performance measure. The PMC recommends testing the measure for scientific acceptability.
