 From the Governor

Greetings ACP members! Since I last sent a newsletter in Sep 2025 there have been some good developments in our Chapter. For starters, we held officer elections and installed three outstanding individuals to serve as our Chapter Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. We also rounded out the chairs of our Councils of Medical Students, Residents and Fellows, and Early Career Physicians! And we added a Council of Chief Residents which is a novel concept in the ACP world. These efforts are aimed at increasing participation in the Chapter and better representing our members and their needs. With this progress we have formed our Governor's Advisory Council and I wanted to share a graphic illustrating this group. The Advisory Council had its first meeting on 9 Feb 2026.

 ACP Annual Meeting 2026

The annual meeting is coming soon! It will be held in San Francisco from 16-18 April. I hope to see some of you there! I wanted to point out a few ways our Chapter is participating in the meeting.

First, please join me at the Ohio/Military Chapters Reception during the meeting! We are very grateful to the Ohio Chapter for continuing to invite us to participate in their reception as we would not be able to afford to hold one of our own. We do contribute to this event – I essentially provide a sum of money commensurate with the number of our Chapter members who attend the meeting. So please take advantage of this great social and networking opportunity.

Next, I want to point out our Chapter members that are scheduled to present at the National Meeting.

Last, consider volunteering to participate during the meeting. There is an opportunity to serve as a volunteer judge for the Doctor's Dilemma competition. If interested, you can sign up here.

 Chapter Members

Congratulations to Dr. Dylan Walker for his selection as Waxman Scholar! The ACP Herbert S. Waxman Chief Resident Teaching Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding Chief Medical Residents and to provide them with an opportunity to assist in teaching popular clinical skills workshops under the guidance and mentorship of expert faculty in the Clinical Skills Center, part of ACP's Internal Medicine Meeting taking place April 16 - 18 in San Francisco, CA. Capt Walker, a board-certified Internal Medicine physician, has demonstrated a sustained commitment to medical education and resident development. He is a 2023 recipient of the James J. Leonard Award for Excellence in Teaching Internal Medicine from USUHS and was named 2024-2025 Internal Medicine Residency Most Valued Teacher. As chief resident, his interests include resident wellness and burnout, and curriculum design.”

There were six Waxman scholars selected nationally this year.

Please join me in welcoming our newest Fellows!

  • Craig Yugawa

Both individuals achieved Fellowship in the College through the guided pathway. The Guided Pathway provides an opportunity for those physicians who have recently completed residency training to be able to achieve election to Fellowship over a three-year timeline. We have four individuals in our next “class” of guided fellowship members. They should complete this pathway in December.

  • Lisa Dykes
  • Daniel Shields
  • Jason Thomas
  • Julia Timm Intili

Each year we are growing this list which is great! Our guided Fellowship class of 2027 has five members and our new class of 2028 has 13!

Class of 2027

Dr. Cox is a Chief of Residents at the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Chair of our chapter's Council of Chief Residents.

Hometown: Independence, Kentucky

Residency: Wright State University/Wright Patterson Air Force Base Internal Medicine

What I love most about medicine: I love the broad scope, problem solving, and longitudinal relationships you are able to build with your patients.

What I enjoy doing in my free time: I enjoy running/working out, snow skiing, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.

One thing most people do not know about me: I am currently training for the Kentucky Derby half marathon.

What I like about ACP: I like how ACP provides a home base for internist resources, information, and networking. I have met really awesome people through ACP and our annual Tri-Service meeting helps our military chapters stay connected and informed.

 Final Thoughts

In closing, I am very interested in hearing from Chapter members about what direction you would like to see our Chapter go! I would like to see us better serve our field members (those individuals who are stationed in non-academic centers). I would also like to see us tackle a national service project and improve the utility of the Chapter and ACP for all of us. Please send me your ideas on how we can best accomplish this! bneubauer001@gmail.com .

Yours in service,

BN
