As ACP continues advancing its mission of improving health care worldwide, members across our internal medicine community are getting to know LeRoi Hicks, MD, MPH, MACP, who joined the College as Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2026.

Dr. Hicks brings decades of experience in clinical practice, academic medicine, and health system leadership. Before joining ACP, he served as President of Christiana Care's Wilmington Campus in Delaware, where he oversaw strategic planning, operational excellence, and the delivery of high-quality patient care. Throughout his career, he has earned national recognition for his commitment to advancing health equity, addressing health care disparities, and improving patient-centered care.

A board-certified internal medicine physician, Dr. Hicks has held numerous leadership roles within medicine, including serving as President of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM). In 2024, ACP recognized his exceptional contributions to the profession by electing him to Mastership (MACP), one of the College's highest honors.

Dr. Hicks also made history as the first African American physician to serve as ACP's EVP and CEO. His leadership reflects ACP's ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation, inclusion, and service to physicians and patients around the world.

A graduate of Howard University and the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Hicks completed residency training at Mount Auburn Hospital, followed by a fellowship in general medicine and faculty development at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He also earned a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.

As he begins his tenure leading ACP, Dr. Hicks has emphasized his commitment to supporting internal medicine physicians at every stage of their careers and advancing equitable access to high-quality care. We look forward to partnering with him as we strengthen ACP's global presence and continue supporting members across the world.
