Two pancreatologists and coauthors of a recent American College of Gastroenterology guideline on the management of acute pancreatitis discuss issues related to genetic testing, cholecystectomy, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography with endoscopic sphincterotomy for patients with acute idiopathic pancreatitis in general, and for a young woman recently diagnosed with this condition.
