Meet the New Nebraska Governor-elect

Congratulations to the Nebraska Chapter Governor-elect (GE), Lauren E. Nelson, MD, FACP. Our new GE will complete a year of training as a Governor-elect and then will start her four-year term as Governor in the Spring of 2024. As Governor, Dr. Nelson will serve as the official representative of the College for the Nebraska Chapter, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level. In the meantime, Dr. Nelson will be working closely with Dr. Beachy (the current governor) and College staff to learn about the College and her duties as Governor. Present Position: Primary Care Internal Medicine Physician, Boys Town National Research Hospital

ACP Chapter and Leadership Activities: Chapter Vice President; Recipient, Early Career Physician Award 2020; Chair, Council of Early Career Physicians 2015-2019

ACP National Activities: Fellowship 2019; Member, Council of Early Career Physicians 2019-2022; Member, Well-being & Professional Fulfillment Committee 2020-2022

Other Appointments/Activities: Member, Nebraska Medicaid Pharmaceutical & Therapeutics Committee since 2019; Preceptor, UNMC Longitudinal Clinical Experience M1 and M2 Students; Leader,  Virtual Book Club for early career physicians, residents, and students (Goals: foster discussion of racism in medicine, encourage critical thinking, and promote a connected, supportive medical community).
