Candidate Statement:
My parents retired last year after fifty years in the practice of medicine. Their patients now come to see me with thick manila charts tucked under their arms they can't wait to show me; my father's hand-written notes of their life stories documented therein. When I explain this to my colleagues they shake their heads. They are "out of here" as soon as they can financially make it feasible. Some hope to work into their sixties, but they are not sure they see a path to do so. Several beloved mentors have already left, leaving us and their patients bereft of their wisdom and experience. While I have no plans to work until I'm 82, I have gained expertise in wellness and sustainability and served in leadership to bring these changes to our profession. I'd like to see our profession reclaim the mission and purpose that makes us want to stay a part of it, to continue to care for families, in the context of their communities, over the course of their lifetimes.

Candidate Statement:
As a traditional internist for 23 years, practicing in a community hospital in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, and being integrally involved in academics, educating students and residents, I can well represent the broad membership of the Northern Illinois ACP. My volunteer work for the ACP has been some of the most rewarding service that I have done, and has rejuvenated my love of this profession. I want to continue the inroads our exceptional ACP Illinois leaders have done disseminating all that ACP can do to proactively help you tackle the myriad ongoing changes in medicine. As internists, we listen to stories, and if I become your Governor, I want to hear your story, your accomplishments and your concerns, and with the breadth of ACP resources, help you find your joy in our wonderful profession. It would be an honor to serve as your Governor.
