Governor's Message
Hello to all. We just wrapped up an awesome meeting in Chattanooga and will soon begin planning for the next one. That one will be in middle TN (Franklin) and occur on October 11-12, 2019. Mark your calendars now!
This letter might be a bit long as there is a lot to cover, so pick and choose what you are interested in. I hope there was something in this newsletter for you. If not, let me know how to make it better and what I can do for you! Email me anytime with your concerns or suggestions. I want to make your membership valuable in any way I can.
Take care and have a peaceful holiday season.
Tracey
Social Media
Please check out our Facebook page! I am trying to improve posts to it. If you have things that you think are important for our membership to know about, feel free to let me or our Executive Director, Renee Arnott, know and we can post the information.
Local Meeting Highlights
Our annual Chapter Meeting took place in Chattanooga and we had outstanding speakers and participation. A few highlights are presented below. We sent money and items to the Chattanooga Rescue Mission and they were most appreciative. I would like to continue that tradition and collect donations for the Nashville Rescue Mission with our next meeting.
Presentations
One of our highlights was having Dr. Sue Hingle, former chair of the Board of Regents. She spoke on ACP's wellness initiatives and led our Town Hall. ACP is doing so much towards trying to decrease physician paperwork, improve the E/M system, and advocate for us in Washington, DC. We hope to have our TN Well-being Champions, Dr. Mukta Panda and Dr. Ben Maddox, visit various areas of the state this year to encourage and get your ideas on preventing physician burnout.

Dr. Hingle with our own TN representative on the Board of Regents, Dr. Ryan Mire.
Doctor's Dilemma®
Chattanooga won the Chapter's Doctor's Dilemma® competition and will be representing our state at the National Doctor's Dilemma® competition in Philadelphia in April. Pictured below are the winning team with some of their faculty and Dr. Marie Tudor, Chair of the Planning Committee for 4 straight years, and Byung Ban, who has been our Alex Trebek for 3 years. We will miss him. The winning team going to the national competition will be Dr. Snan Ghalib, Dr. Yazan Saba, and Dr. Muhammad Janjua.

Chapter Awards
Several chapter awards were presented during the meeting. Please join me in congratulating the awardees!
Chapter Laureate Award
Two well deserved Chapter Laureate Awards were presented:

Dr. Nancy Brown, Chair of the Department of Medicine, Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Dr. Maria Tudor, Chair of Program Committee for four years, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Chattanooga
Volunteerism and Community Service Award
Dr. Allison Stiles, board certified in Pediatrics, IM and Breastfeeding Medicine, for her dedicated work in promoting breast feeding in Shelby County.

National Awards
We are also very proud to have two chapter members who will receive national ACP awards at the Internal Medicine Meeting 2019 in Philadelphia next April:
National Resident/Student Award
We took the opportunity to recognize Dr. James Lewis, Professor of Medicine at UTHSC.

Mastership will be awarded to Dr. Charlene Dewey at the national meeting in April.

National ACP Meeting
Internal Medicine 2019 will be held in Philadelphia on April 11-13th. Please consider coming. Dr. Charlene Dewey will be awarded a Mastership and Dr. Jim Lewis will receive the national Resident/Student Educator Award, in addition to the induction of many new Fellows into the College. It's a great time to celebrate with our members as well as learning important recent advances in patient care.
Advocacy
The subject of NP/PA mid-level supervision will likely come up again, and there is a meeting at TMA with representatives from multiple societies in November to discuss strategies regarding this. I will attend as well as Dr. Kevin Smith. Kevin has put a proposal together that the Council is reviewing and we are trying to be part of the solution! If you have any ideas or suggestions, please email or call me.
Leadership Day
This will take place on May 14-15 in Washington, DC. If you would like to go to this day, please email me.
Board of Governors Meeting
I attended the Fall Board of Governors Meeting in Seattle, Washington in September. National ACP continues to work on a simplified version of MOC with ABIM, opioid crisis (module for ACP members on acponline.org), and Medicare E/M proposed changes (this will not go into effect in Jan 2019 as originally proposed), among other topics.
Reading Retreat
This annual event will be held at Montgomery State Park this year. See the information and registration form. Space is limited and may be filled already, but check it out if you never have as they are outstanding!
We talked about new ideas for this at our Council Meeting as we try to reach early career physicians and get more involvement. Our current Reading Retreat is excellent, but has not had many new members involved in the past few years. Any ideas you might have would be welcome, perhaps something like some breakout sessions on short stories etc., at the annual Chapter Meeting.
TMA Trimed Meeting
We participated in this event in the fall and heard excellent talks by Dr. Chris Trabue on C. difficile and antimicrobial stewardship. Dr. Jim Lewis gave a talk on Update in Perioperative Medicine, and Dr. Emily Neely presented on Management of Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
Educational Information
There is a host of educational information available on the College's website. Please check it out and discover all of the material available for you. New modules and most is free and gives MOC and CME credit. There are excellent podcasts as well!
MKSAP 18
The newest version, MKSAP 18, is available now and at a discounted price for members. There is a chapter in Illinois that has started a weekly MKSAP evening sessions via web for any ACP member who is interested. A Fellow member will review a series of questions during that hour and you will get several questions answered for your CME/MOC. You must have purchased MKSAP to participate. These sessions will start in January and you can tune into any you are interested in.
The Illinois Executive Director, Colleen Keeku, can tell you the next steps if you are interested in participating.
Students, Resident/Fellow Members and Early Career Physicians
As you know, these members are the future of our organization. Please encourage their involvement and let me know of ideas you may have to increase involvement. We have committees for each group, and we would love to have more members on these committees.
We held two ECP, resident-student events this fall, and hope to continue this trend.
Chair of the Medical Students Committee is Sara Tesfatasion
Chair of the Resident/Fellow Members Committee is Claude Pirtle
Chair of the Early Career Physicians Committee is Mihir Patel
