Myriam Z. Allende-Vigo, MD, FACP, ACP Governor
Greetings to all, members of the ACP extended family. This is the season we embrace our relatives, staff and friends forgetting nuances and enjoying life. As we prepare for the enormous amount of parties and food fest, let's remember to be cautious. In a few weeks, parties will be over and health care is to continue. So, let's not engage in excess. Our chapter had many successes during the past year, hopefully many more in the upcoming 2020. Members of the Board of Regents will visit us in January and will hold a mentoring reception for select residents and medical students. May the joy of the season remain in our hearts forever.
Volunteers @ Work
On November 9, 2019 a group of more than thirty IMIG Medical Students Members collaborated with the Puerto Rico Society of Endocrinology and Diabetology (SPED) in the multidisciplinary healthcare fair Endocrinólogos a su Servicio, celebrated at the Clínicas de la Escuela de Medicina of the University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus. We would like to thank all our student members for their contribution and collaboration. They were instrumental to the success of this event!
Internal Medicine Grand Rounds Program
Our Grand Round series continues; his time we head to the West. On November 12, 2019, the ACP Puerto Rico Chapter sponsored a Grand Round at Mayaguez Medical Center. Dr. Myriam Allende was the keynote speaker presenting the lecture: “Update in the Management of Diabetes Mellitus”. This was the first Grand Round in the west part of the Island and thanks to the initiative of Dr. Alexandra Saavedra, Chief Resident of La Concepción Hospital in San German, we were able to broadcast live the lecture from Mayaguez Medical Center to La Concepción Hospital. We were pleased to have the participation of over 70 Internal Medicine residents and several attending physicians from both Internal Medicine Residency Programs and the community.
This is a very special time of the year, a season for Sharing, Giving and Receiving the gifts of the season. Our biggest gift is to realize that we can be happy independent of our circumstances because happiness is a way of living, a state of mind.
We wish you to enjoy the gifts of every day: the sun, a smile, a flower, a tree, a friend, your family, a purpose. This is a time of sharing love and time with family, friends, and with ourselves. It is a pause for reflection on the different areas of life and in our accomplishments.
During this special season, let's take time to review our inner circle, our family relation, spirituality, friends, our health behaviors, nutrition, exercise, sleep, contact with nature, and our professional accomplishments. Life balance is important for a successful management of transitions. Plant the seeds of your mission for a new year!
Our next ACP Wellness Celebration will be on Saturday, April 4, 2020. This activity will be dedicated to Physician Self Care, Transitions and Happiness. Mark your calendars for an enlightening activity and a Happy Day!
Best Wishes for 2020!
