Dr. Julie Blehm, from Hatton, ND, graduated from Concordia
College in Moorhead, MN and went on to complete her MD degree at
the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. Her internship
in internal medicine was completed in Fargo, ND. She completed her
residency in internal medicine at Des Moines, IA at Iowa Methodist
Medical Center through the University of Iowa Affiliated Program.
Dr. Blehm is board certified in Internal Medicine and has the
certificate of added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. She is
also certified by the American College of Medical Practice
She and her husband, David Blehm MD, practiced at Medical Arts
Clinic in Minot, ND until moving to Fargo in 1999. While practicing
in Minot, Dr. Blehm was the medical director for North Dakota
Healthcare Review Inc. and served as the principal clinical
coordinator from 1989 until moving to Fargo.
Dr. Blehm is currently director of the UND Internal Medicine
Residency Outpatient Clinic at MeritCare Health System and managing
physician partner for the office-based internists practicing at
MeritCare Medical Group. Dr. Blehm has served in various capacities
in support of work in diabetes including as director on the boards
of the state, regional and national ADA. She has worked as camp
physician at Camp Sioux for children with diabetes taking vacation
time to be in service to children. She has also served on the board
of directors for ND Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Dr. Blehm has been the recipient of numerous teaching and
service awards including the Distinguished Service Award from the
ND ADA, Woman of Distinction Award from the Minot YWCA, and was
elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Society in 2000. The mother of two
children, Ben and Amy, Julie finds time to pursue interests in
outdoor activities, as well as church and volunteer work,
committing her talents, skills, and energy to the betterment of her
For her leadership, personal qualities, and service to the ACP
and the patients of North Dakota we feel Dr. Blehm is an
outstanding recipient of the ACP's Laureate Award.
