ACP Center for Quality: Chronic Pain and Safe Opioid Prescribing

ACP’s Center for Quality has developed resources and training approaches that can help primary care practices improve chronic pain management through:

  • Increased screening and referral for depression and anxiety
  • Improved assessment and systematic screening of opioid misuse
  • Implementation of patient-centered controlled substance contracts
  • Assessment and maximization of functioning and quality of life in chronic pain patients
  • Identification and better coordination of care with behavioral health care providers, pain subspecialists, and other allied health care providers for chronic pain patients.
