Candidate Statement:
In fifteen years of primary care practice, I have seen how obesity has devastated our state. It is underlying many of the chronic diseases jeopardizing the well-being of West Virginians. I am passionate about fighting this epidemic, and I recently became board certified in obesity medicine so I could more directly address it. My desire to have a broad impact also led me to earn a master’s degree in public health and to work in an academic setting where I have had the opportunity to teach and shape the next generation of internists. As WV ACP Governor, I will use my population health skills to address obesity and other public health problems affecting our state. I also intend to host lively chapter meetings, encourage student and resident involvement, engage hospitalists, and emphasize quality of care in WV and beyond.
