Tennessee Governor's Newsletter March 2020
Tracey E. Doering, MD, FACP, ACP Governor
My initial plan was to do a newsletter after our national spring meeting, but things have changed dramatically in a short period of time! This will be brief as I know you all are busy.
I wanted to reach out to all of you and thank you for your hard work each day in taking care of patients, especially in these unprecedented times of the pandemic of coronavirus. I hope you are all staying well and want you to reach out if we can help you in anyway. I know many were also affected by the recent tornados which ripped along I-40 for 60 miles through our state.
Numerous resources are available regarding the coronavirus. ACP online has a very informative and rapidly updated page and learning module available to all members. There is also a coronavirus forum.
We have a pilot chapter forum which can be accessed in two ways.
- Bookmark https://www.acponline.org/forum, or;
- From the ACP Online homepage, scroll to the bottom navigation bar and select “Member Forums” from the far right.
Although we are rightfully focused on the pandemic, I wanted to share updates on a few issues.
Nurse practitioner independent practice
Members of your council have been an active part of a coalition for collaborative care and have made proposals to TNA for a collaborative model. TNA has rejected our model and put forth their own bill, which did NOT gain support and the bill has been pulled for this year. This is an awesome accomplishment, but ongoing efforts will be required from the coalition. Many state societies are involved in this coalition.
TN privilege tax
Dr. RIchard Lane, former ACP Tennessee Chapter Governor, who is a member of the TN ACP's Health and Public Policy Committee, represented ACP at TN PRofessional Privilege Tax Lobby Day. Legislation was introduced to try to lower this tax to $200 in 2021, and hoping to eliminate this in 2022.
We now have a chapter forum as I mentioned above and all members can sign up. I have put the resolutions there for the spring for your commentary. The Board of Governors meeting may still be held in a virtual format. We have a chapter resolution regarding the observation vs. inpatient status.
Soon, we will send the announcement about awards for our chapter. We gave some new awards last year, and would like to continue this. Please respond with nominations when the notice comes out.
Mark your calendars now for this on Oct. 23-24 in Franklin at the Marriott. Hopefully this meeting can take place.
Please stay well and safe through these unprecedented times. Let me know any way that TN ACP can help you!
