Governor's Message

I hope you have paused the routine schedule and are enjoying summertime, a perfect time to relax and enjoy. The past few months were full of activities, this pause is welcome and necessary. Past April several members of the chapter had the opportunity of updating their clinical skills and networking in Philadelphia at Internal Medicine 2019. Dr. Melba Feliciano became the first Puerto Rican wellness champion during this meeting. In May, the chapter offered our first MOC activity. The remarkable academic activity A Practical Approach Optimizing the Glycemic Control in the Outpatient with Type 2 Diabetes was well attended and highly praised by attendees. Early in June, the chapter held the first activity for wellness, tailored for women internists, thanks to an ACP SAN grant. Food for the Mind and the Soul of Women in Internal Medicine was a fun interactive activity that women in all stages of career (medical students, residents, practicing and retiring physicians) enjoyed. In July, we learned that our chapter is bigger and stronger. We will take this summer break to plan for the upcoming activities in the Autumn, Grand Round, Doctors Dilemma, and 2019 Clinical Vignettes & Research Competition.

Puerto Rico Chapter at the ACP National Meeting

We would like to recognize the outstanding participation of the VA Caribbean Healthcare Team that represented Puerto Rico at the National Doctor's Dilemma® Competition. Their participation in the semi-finals was memorable, and made us proud.

The Puerto Rico Chapter Reception at the ACP National Meeting in Philadelphia was attended by over 50 attendees. It was a good opportunity to fraternize with our peers during the National Meeting.

Dr. Melba Feliciano was trained as our wellness champion during Internal Medicine 2019. She brought several initiatives that will surely improve the satisfaction among our membership. ACP has joined efforts with medical societies such as the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to improve physician well-being, restoring meaning in the practice of Medicine and increasing awareness of the crisis of burnout, depression and suicide among residents, fellows, faculty and other healthcare providers. Activities to address these important issues will be developed by our ACP chapter. Please contact Ms. Rina Vega at if you wish to collaborate in this initiative.
