Convocation at IM 2019
Next month in Philadelphia at IM 2019, we are very proud to see Dan Jones, MD, FACP receive his Mastership in the College. Dan will be our 8th Mississippi Master, and he is undoubtedly very deserving of this prestigious honor. Mastership is conferred to those who have made a significant contribution to the field of internal medicine and who have been recognized for the significance of that work. Dr. Jones has served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Chancellor of the University of Mississippi, and President of the American Heart Association; he has been recognized as an outstanding physician and clinical researcher; and he has spent seven years of his career a missionary and medical director in North Korea. Joining Dr. Jones in recognition this year are several new Fellows in the College – Wes Aldred, Pradeep Bathina, Wisit Cheungpasitporn, Savannah Duckworth, Benjamin Gatewood, Kimberly Harkins, Rebecca Lauderdale, Brandon Lennep, Day Lennep, Matt Rhinewalt, and Richard Tilley. We additionally have a handful of others who are awaiting confirmation of Fellowship, and we look forward to each of them being recognized at future IM meetings.
Congratulations to all of the medical students in the state who matched on March 15th, and a special congratulations to those who matched into internal medicine! This is an exciting time, and was celebrated at both UMMC and William Carey. If you are interested, here is a video produced by UMMC with coverage of Match Day in Jackson.
Six months ago we formed a chapter Communications Committee, who composed the survey regarding communications sent out in late 2018 and who has assisted in the management of our Twitter feed and Facebook page and who is now putting together much our content for our newsletters. This committee will continue to expand our reach to our membership through each of these routes and will add some innovations to our communication over time. If you have any information that you would like to see included or covered on our platforms, please reach out to Communications Committee member Peyton Reves at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have not had a chance to follow us yet on one or both of our social media feeds, here are the URLs for each.
We will be updating the content and posting more frequently over the coming months, and we'll also follow you as you follow the chapter.
Our newsletters will now be sent monthly to the chapter. If you have ideas for those newsletters or information that you would like to share with the whole chapter, please send those to Nancy Youngblood, email@example.com, or Peyton Reves, firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for reading and for being a part of our chapter!
