CEO of Lean In LLC

1. What is your current professional position?

CEO of Lean In LLC

2. Why did you choose internal medicine?

IM was the essence of being a physician for me. It felt like the “thinker’s” specialty, and I felt challenged by that.

3. What trends are you seeing in your day-to-day practice (with patients, the health care system, or otherwise)?

Recognizing the impact of social determinants on health outcomes and consideration for them when caring for patients.

4. What do you want to accomplish professionally within the next five years?

I would like to see the growth of our health care presence in Greenwood [a district of Tulsa], Oklahoma, and the growth of my health equity company’s reach.

5. Can you share a brief (and anonymous) patient encounter or professional situation that made you proud to be an Internal Medicine physician?

A patient of mine in her late 40s had never had a Black physician before. Sharing the same racial background contributed to the trust she had in me, as her physician. I am very proud of what ACP has done for our field to improve representation in many areas.
