WASHINGTON June 26, 2023 – The American College of Physicians (ACP) was pleased to see the executive order announced by the Biden administration last week to ensure coverage of contraceptive services with no cost sharing for patients. ACP strongly supports access to affordable contraception. The requirements that were instituted as part of the Affordable Care Act to ensure that Americans can afford evidence-based preventive services were a major step forward in securing access to care in our country. We believe that it is essential for all Americans to have access to affordable, comprehensive, non- discriminatory public or private health care coverage that includes evidence-based care over the course of their lifespan. As we have seen access to reproductive health services threatened across this country over the past year, it has become even more urgent to protect access to all aspects of reproductive health care, including family planning and the full range of medically accepted forms of contraception. ACP will continue to work with the administration and other policymakers to protect and restore access to comprehensive reproductive health care.
