Governor's Welcome

Welcome to our American College of Physicians Chapter’s website.

ACP is the nation's largest medical specialty organization. Membership comprises more than 137,000 internal medicine physicians and medical students. Internists provide the majority of health care to adults in America. Our Chapter is one of the largest in the nation with over 5,000 members.

Both generalist and subspecialty internists make up our membership in the Ohio Chapter. Our intent is to speak for our specialty of Internal Medicine and our patients. If you are an internist in Ohio but are not yet an ACP member, we invite you to browse our site to learn more about the College and our Chapter activities. Simply call (513-558-1976) or email me (greg.rouan@uc.edu) directly and I will help facilitate this for you.

We have several responsibilities as a chapter. Those at least include representing the voice and sentiment of our Chapter to the national ACP organization; encouraging internists in our state to become members and members to advance to Fellowship; recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of our members; encouraging input and action on national and local political issues effecting the environment of internal medicine; hosting local scientific meetings and CME events; and encouraging medical student members and Associates (i.e. residents) to participate in local and national College activities.

Our Chapter’s website site (http://www.acponline.org/about_acp/chapters/oh/) has been developed to keep internists in Ohio and our membership up-to-date on developments and activities in our Chapter. Our at least quarterly newsletters, emails, and updates on this webpage to our membership are intended to provide details about upcoming activities to include advocacy efforts to include our visits to Capitol Hill that will occur on May 24-25, 2011 and educational activities to include our upcoming regional meeting on October 14, 2011 in Columbus. The names and contact information of our Chapter leaders responsible for these activities will be posted on our website.

We encourage and need you to participate in any of our Chapter’s activities that may be of interest to you. We are developing a strategic plan for our Chapter for the four next years. The intent of our intent is to emphasize how membership in the ACP may add value to the breadth of our constituencies and thereby enhance their daily work lives.

The leadership that has been recruited by our former governor Dr. Mark Mayer is truly remarkable. They have all remained engaged in the leadership of our Chapter and I recommend them and their committees to you highly. They include: Linda Ha the Chair Chapter Scientific Program Planning Committee, Michael Tan the Chair of the Membership Committee, John Schroder the Chair of the Program Directors Committee, Moises Auron the Chair of the Young Physicians Committee, Joseph Myers the Chair of the Awards Committee, and Arlene Fedorchack the Chair of the Health and Public Policy Committee. Each is actively recruiting members and co-chairs.

We would like to hear any suggestions you have for how the Ohio Chapter of the ACP that might help make us better physicians and improve the quality of the professional lives and those of our patients. I would recommend that you contact either me directly or our new Executive Director Jan Wrassman (jwrassman@fuse.net) now that we have moved the Chapter headquarters to Cincinnati.

We hope that you will visit this site frequently and enjoy its contents. We will be updating it at least on a quarterly basis to inform you of upcoming events and sharing valuable resources that are available at out websites.
