Welcome from the ACP Florida Chapter Governors
Our Governor-elect
Congratulations to the Florida Chapter Governor-elect, John G. Langdon, MD, FACP. He will start his four-year term as Governor in the Spring of 2014. As one of two Florida Governors, Dr. Langdon will serve as the official representative of the College for the Florida Chapter, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level. In the meantime, Dr. Langdon will be working closely with Dr. Zimmer, Dr. Rossi, and College staff to learn about the College and his duties as Governor. Florida Chapter Wins 2013 John Tooker Evergreen Award
The John Tooker Evergreen Awards Program provides recognition and visibility to chapters that have successfully implemented programs to increase membership, improve communication, increase member involvement, enhance diversity, foster careers in internal medicine and improve management of the chapter. The Florida Chapter received a 2013 John Tooker Evergreen Award in the Advocacy category for the following program:
Use of the Courts to Influence Public Policy
Seeking to expand their advocacy efforts beyond legislative initiatives, the Florida Chapter has taken an active role in the legal process related to two specific cases, one on capping noneconomic damages and the other on physicians’ ability to speak with patients about gun safety. While the outcomes of these cases are still pending, the Florida Chapter has received enormous support from the press, the public and its own membership for promoting the interests of its members in these new forums.
Florida Chapter Recognized as an Evergreen-All Star
In 1993, the Evergreen Awards Program was started as a way to recognize outstanding chapter efforts and innovation. As a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the program, the Chapters Subcommittee and staff looked for a way to recognize chapters who have demonstrated a long-term engagement with the program. The criteria included that a chapter must have submitted at least 5 nominations, had at least 2 winners, and had a nominated program running for at least 3 years. The Florida Chapter has contributed to the growth of all chapters through their commitment to sharing successful best practices through the Evergreen program and has been recognized as an Evergreen All-Star for their achievements.
