(October 6, 2021)-Congratulations to Chung Owyang, MD. MACP, the newest Michigan Chapter Mastership of the American College of Physicians (MACP). MACP is one of the most prestigious awards in the college, for those fellows of the college who demonstrate integrity, the utmost professional behaviors, excellence in the practice of medicine, and significant impact on the profession. MACPs represent a very small percentage of college membership.
Join me in congratulating Dr. Owyang on this tremendous accomplishment.
(August 2021) The Michigan Chapter Bylaws have been in effect since 2003. It was time to revise the Chapter Bylaws to reflect the many changes in how the Chapter operates today, to better align with National ACP Bylaws and to remain current with the members of the Chapter. These changes have taken 1-1/2 years from concept to approval by the American College of Physicians Board of Regents, approved April 17, 2021.
You can and are encouraged to review the new Michigan Chapters Bylaws in full.
The ask for Members: Please consider joining us in an ACP Chapter Leadership role. We are looking for nominations for a Chapter Secretary. The election and vote will take place at the Annual Business Meeting which will take place at the end of the end of the Annual Fall Meeting on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
You will find attached an excerpt regarding the Secretary position description. A review of the new Chapter Bylaws will give you more complete information.
The New Chapter Bylaws allows for members to step into Chapter Leadership positions and to join our Chapter committees. We also plan to start a new committee focused on Diversity and Community Service along with our current Chapter committees. This will be a new effort for our Chapter but will match clinical need for our patients during this COVID pandemic.
Please consider being part of the Chapter Leadership in one of our Committees. Also attached is a current list of the Chapter Committees. For interest in joining a Chapter Committee or being involved in new committees please email me at email@example.com or our Governor Elect, Dr. Sarah Hartley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You are more than welcome to nominate yourself or one of your colleagues for the Secretary Position. Nominations, along with Curriculum Vitae, can be sent to Dr. Martha Gray or Dr. Sarah Hartley at the email addresses listed above or to the Nominations Committee Chair, Dr. Sandor Shoichet at Sandor.Shoichet@beaumont.edu.
(June 2021) Congratulations to the Michigan Chapter Governor-Elect, Sarah E. Hartley, MD, FACP. Our new Governor-Elect has begun a year of training, which began at the conclusion of the IM 2021 virtual meeting in April. Sarah will start her four-year term as Governor in the Spring of 2022. As Governor, Dr. Hartley will serve as the official representative of the College for the Michigan Chapter, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level.
