New Fellows Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long is the ceremony? What is the role of the new Fellows?

A: Convocation generally lasts about 90 minutes. The procession and seating of new Fellows is by ACP chapter. During the ceremony, new Fellows stand by roll call of their ACP chapter and together recite the ACP Pledge. Fellows are seated in the front of the hall and do not ascend the stage during the ceremony.

Q: What do I wear underneath my regalia?

A: Suggested attire is lightweight business casual to wear under your regalia. You may wish to check coats, bags, and briefcases at the Coat Check in Hall C.

Q: Must I wear the cap provided?

A: Head coverings used for cultural or religious observance may be worn instead of the cap.

Q: Can my family attend Convocation?

A: Convocation is open to the public and we encourage family and friends to attend the ceremony and honor the new Fellows. Those with young children may prefer to use the childcare services at their hotel or the service available for Internal Medicine Meeting 2016 attendees at the Marriott Marquis Washington DC as the ceremony is quite long for young children. Guests are welcome to accompany the new Fellows when they pick up their regalia, but the Governors and New Fellows Assembly Area is restricted to participants. Family and friends may not enter the Assembly Area. Please note: Convocation is a formal ceremony honoring the great achievements of the new Fellows and members of the Stage Party; guest conduct is expected to match the occasion.

Q: Are tickets needed for Convocation?

A: No. Convocation is open to the public on a first come, first seated basis.
