Those Forms! Advocating for Patients with Work Disability
Thursday, June 7, 2018 3:00 pm ET | 3:00 pm ET
You know the drill. It’s the end of the visit, your management plan is set, and you’re about to sign off on your note. And then the patient hands you a form – “Oh, by the way, could you fill this out for work?” Even if you schedule another visit to take care of this issue, you still need to understand the context and implications of your decisions. Speaker Marianne Cloeren, MD, MPH, FACOEM, FACP will introduce the most common work and disability system forms that internists face in clinical practice, explain the context and reasons for patient questions, and discuss the importance of carefully reasoned decisions in completing them. Topics will include workers’ compensation, FMLA, ADA, and social security systems.
Dr. Cloeren is an Associate Professor in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She has served on the ACOEM Board of Directors and is a member of ACOEM’s Council on Occupational and Environmental Medicine Practice. Her clinical and research interests include the care of patients with work-related or environmental-related illness, the biopsychosocioeconomic risk factors for prolonged work disability, the content and quality of physician/patient communication, return-to-work and workers’ compensation policy, and clinical education.
