From the Governor
Greetings once again from La Crosse. I hope this edition of the Newsletter finds you all well and looking forward to the beautiful time of the year coming up. We won’t discuss the ‘spring’ that never happened. In this edition I will review recent highlights that have occurred in national and state ACP activities.
National ACP News
ACP's 'Internal Medicine 2013' occurred April 11-13th in San Francisco. If you were not able to attend this great meeting you can still order recordings of presentations.
The ACP came out with their annual ‘State of the Nation’s Healthcare’ report in February, 2013. This report can be accessed via this link to the national ACP Web site.
Leadership Day on Capitol Hill will be occurring May 21-22nd in Washington DC. We have a Wisconsin delegation going to discuss with our Wisconsin congressmen/women topics relevant to the ACP. The deadline to sign up for this year’s event is past, but please consider attending Leadership Day in 2014. I will review highlights of this year’s Leadership Day in the June ‘Badger Beat’.
Recently published highlights from the ACP include an article in the April 9th Annals on prostate cancer screening. If you have not seen this article yet it is available via this link.

Wisconsin Chapter News
Our state ACP chapter made a concerted effort this winter to lobby Governor Walker for Medicaid expansion and acceptance of new federal Medicaid funding. Despite our efforts the Governor did not accept the one hundred million dollars in new federal Medicaid funds.
A number of new ACP Fellows from Wisconsin marched in the New Fellows convocation at the national meeting in San Francisco. The picture below is of the Fellows who participated, taken just prior to the formal convocation.
Sanford A. Carimi, MD, FACP; Christopher G. Koeppl, MD, FACP; Jeffrey K. Bahr, MD, FACP; Kenneth Felz, MD, FACP; Bruce H. Camilleri, MD, FACP
We held our annual Wisconsin Reception during the ACP national meeting at the Bluestem Brasserie in downtown San Francisco on Thursday evening April 11th. The reception was on a 2nd floor outdoor patio that overlooked a square in downtown SF. This was a very fun event and the turnout of Wisconsin physicians was the largest in recent memory with approximately 60 attendees. Please consider joining us for next year's reception during Internal Medicine 2014 in Orlando, Florida.
Dr. Mark Belknap, an internist from Ashland, Wisconsin is the current Governor-elect for our Wisconsin chapter. He will be assuming the office of Governor for a four year term next April during Internal Medicine 2014 in Orlando.

Our annual Wisconsin Chapter State Scientific Meeting will be September 6 - 7th at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Please consider joining us for this very educational and affordable meeting. Our College Representative this year is going to be Dr. Donna Sweet, who is a former Board of Regents chair and an internist specializing in the care of AIDS patients at the University of Kansas in Wichita. Also Drs. Christine and Tom Sinsky, who are internists from Dubuque, Iowa and nationally recognized experts on the Patient Centered Medical Home, running a highly efficient office practice, and physician burnout are going to be featured speakers at this year’s meeting. You won't want to miss it!
Watch for your meeting brochure in the mail or visit our chapter Web site for more details. We will once again be offering two SEP modules at this year’s meeting to help physicians who are participating in MOC. These SEPs are: 2013 Update in Hospital Medicine and 2013 Update in Internal Medicine.
