Annual Committee and Council Appointments Process

The College's annual committee and council appointments process solicits interest in serving on an ACP Committee/Council through a web-based survey distributed in the Fall among the Board of Regents (BOR), Board of Governors (BOG), Chapter Councils, Officers Emeriti, current committee members and other members who have expressed an interest in serving.

The BOR Chair-elect in consultation with the BOG Chair-elect, the President-elect, and current BOR Chair recommend committee and council appointments to the Governance Committee, informed by current needs, staff perspectives, and the expressed interests of potential appointees. Appointments to the Councils of Student Members, Resident/Fellow Members and Early Career Physicians are recommended to the Governance Committee by the respective Council.

The number of openings on College committees and subcommittees is relatively small each year, generally about 15-25 open seats across all committees and subcommittees. Membership on an ACP committee or subcommittee involves the following commitment:

  • Committees meet 1-2 times a year, in person and an additional 1-4 times by conference call or webinar, depending upon the specific committee needs.

  • Committee members are responsible for attending all committee meetings, reading and being familiar with all agenda materials, actively participating in committee meetings and completing all assignments.

  • All Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs and members are required to complete a Conflict of Interest statement and excuse themselves from discussion/action during committee meetings, if necessary.

  • Committee terms begin May 1 and conclude April 30.
