The Spring Board of Governors meeting will be held in Philadelphia on April 9th and 10th. It is an opportunity for the Governors to gather, discuss and debate and forward on to the Board of Regents their decisions on issues of importance to the College.
Seventeen (17) resolutions will be heard at the Spring 2019 Board of Governors (BOG) Meeting in Philadelphia. Please review each resolution and then indicate your support or opposition by completing the electronic response form by Tuesday, March 26. Your comments will be forwarded to your Governor to be used as part of his testimony on behalf of the chapter.
The American College of Physicians (ACP) released the seventh edition of its Ethics Manual, published as a supplement to the Annals of Internal Medicine, ACP's flagship journal, and available online.
New or significantly expanded sections of the ACP Ethics Manual include precision medicine and genetic testing, research and protection of human subjects, telemedicine, electronic communications, social media and online professionalism, electronic health records, and physician volunteerism.
The manual also revisits issues that are still very pertinent and in which ACP has maintained long-standing positions, such as on end-of-life care and physician-assisted suicide, physician-industry relations, and complementary and integrative care. I encourage you to consider reading this manual and share with your students, Residents and other colleagues.
As you remember, I had requested your input on the resolutions that were discussed in September 2018 at the Fall BOG. A summary of Board of Regents (BOR) actions on fall 2018 Board of Governors (BOG) resolutions debated at the November ACP Board of Regents (BOR) meeting is available below. Resolutions initiated by ACP members and endorsed by a chapter council and the BOG become ACP policy when adopted by the BOR.
The American College of Physicians (ACP) responded to a request from the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) for ideas on how to lower the price of health care for American patients and consumers. The recommendations that ACP outlined in their letter would work to lower health care costs, incentivize care to improve patient outcomes, and increase access to information so patients can make the best decisions for their health care needs.
Congratulations to the following new Fellows who were approved by the Credentials Committee for election on March 1, 2019.

All chapter members attending Internal Medicine 2019 are invited to join us at the Wisconsin Chapter Reception on Thursday, April 11th from 8:00PM to 10:30PM at Volvér, 300 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19102.
These resources were developed by the Center for Patient Partnership in Healthcare (CPPH) at the American College of Physicians. The CPPH develops health literate patient education materials and leads initiatives that actively engage patients and families in their own care.
Our State Chapter Meeting will be held on September 6th and 7th 2019 at the Wilderness Resort and Glacier Canyon Conference Center, Wisconsin Dells. It is an excellent opportunity to expand our clinical knowledge, hear from our ACP leadership and interact with fellow internists. I hope to meet many of you there and renew acquaintances and friendships.
The ACP Leadership Day for 2019 will be held on May 14-15 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC. Leadership Day is the College's annual two-day advocacy event in Washington, DC that enables our members from across the country to bring our issues of concern to U.S. lawmakers. This is a great opportunity for the College and our members to bring our policy priorities to Congress and try to influence the legislative process on behalf of Internal Medicine. The link below will take you to the site where you can familiarize yourself with the event and register for it.
The Wisconsin Doctor Day will be held on May 1st in Madison at the Monona Terrace. This annual event continues to grow, proving the medical community's unified commitment to advocating for issues affecting physicians and their patients.
Please contact me if you have questions or comments on any of the resolutions or on my commentary. My email address is noeldeep@yahoo.com. I am interested to hear from you about issues of interest to you regarding ACP, both nationally and in our chapter.
