Message from Governor

Hello RI ACP Members:

Hope you are getting to enjoy the outdoors and the longer days that spring gives us. I wanted to let you know what has been going on in our Chapter.

I can hardly believe I will be entering my last year as your Governor. This year, Kwame Dapaah-Afriyie will accompany me during all activities so that he can take over seamlessly as your Governor next year. I am looking forward to working with him closely this year.

Stay well and enjoy the wonderful weather,

Kelly

RI Chapter Meeting

We held a very successful, in-person Chapter Meeting at Kent County Hospital in March. Many thanks to our co-Chairs, Drew Nagle, Stephanie Catanese, and Alisa Merolli for their hard work and contributions to our success. Special thanks to Alisa for being an amazing host at Kent. The scientific sessions were incredibly well done and Thieves Market brought to us by Alisha Crowley and Kyla Dewar was quite a hit. We had over 220 participants. Our poster session and resident oral presentations were top notch. Winners of the oral presentations were:

1st Place - Jacob Zinn, MD, Lifespan

2nd Place - Jae Kim, DO, Kent

3rd Place - David Rabinovich, DO, Kent

Julia Berkowitz, MD, Lifespan

Maria Christina Capistrano, MD, Kent

Victoria Nguyen, MD, Lifespan

Lakshmi Ravindra, MD, Lifespan

Best Medical Student Poster - Frances Kazal

We are holding a meeting on June 20, 2022 from 7:30 am to 9 am at Brown Medical School to start planning next year's Chapter meeting. Anyone interested in joining, please email Roni Phipps . We would love to have more innovative ideas.

National ACP Meeting

We were well represented in Doctor's Dilemma by the residents from Kent Hospital IM residency program, Matthew Hall, DO, Meaghan Martinez-Palmer, DO and Ahmad Toumar, MD.

They did extraordinarily well, leading going into the final round, but pulled up short. We are incredibly proud of their efforts. At one point in the competition, the electronic system was not working appropriately and it was our team that spoke up to ensure fairness for all. They were commended by the emcee and judges for their professionalism. Way to go!

Early Career Physician Event

The Early Career Physician group had an event on Thursday, July 23rd with Dr. Stephanie Catanese. She spoke on the topic of physician coaching. The group enjoyed the excellent weather, delicious food and great company at Mare Rooftop restaurant in Providence. Dr. Stephanie Catanese discussed the philosophy and goals of physician coaching, how it differs from mentoring and other professional and personal guidance as well as her training. She discussed common goals physician-clients have addressed with her and solutions they have tried. Let us know if you have any ideas for future ECP events and see you at our next event in the fall!
