Our objective in the Puerto Rico Chapter of the ACP is to
continue to improve healthcare by promoting excellence and
professionalism in the practice of Internal Medicine in Puerto
Rico. Our meetings have been recognized for their academic
excellence. These meetings will be expanded to the various regions
in Puerto Rico which will allow us to identify the reality and
difficulties in the practice of Internal Medicine. These meetings
will also help us recruit new members for our chapter. The practice
of Internal Medicine in Puerto Rico has its unique challenges. We
can utilize ACP resources and create new tools to face these
challenges. We need to educate ourselves and our medical students,
residents and fellows to work with the present health issues and
reality of the practice of Internal Medicine in Puerto Rico. Our
chapter will become a leader facing these challenges.

It is a great honor for me to have been nominated by my

There will be many challenges to face in the coming years, for both
physicians and patients. Health reform, both at the state and
national levels, will change the way in which our patients obtain
access to the care they need. The ACP offers us an opportunity to
meet these challenges together and thus more effectively. I would
like to see increased membership to our chapter, particularly from
physicians in private practice. I would also like to continue our
tradition of education, to provide the best evidence-based care to
our patients. And of course, we must make sure that internists have
voice and participation in any changes to our healthcare
