Volunteerism Award Call for Nomination is Open
Many internists, physicians, residents, and medical students acted well above their call of duty while and after the hurricanes in 2018. The Puerto Rico ACP chapter wants to recognize these individuals. The call for nominations is open. The awardee will be recognized at our annual meeting on March, 2019. Refer to the Chapter's Volunteerism and Community Service Award for more information, and submit the name of a deserving member!
Dr. Germán E. Malaret, Receives ACP Mastership
It is with great pleasure that I announce that our teacher, role model and dedicated internist, Dr. Germán Malaret, was awarded a Mastership.
This is a well-deserved recognition for his many years of service to ACP and to Puerto Rico. All chapter members are pleased and join me in congratulating Dr. Germán Malaret.
Work and Play: Strategic Planning Meeting
On August 18, 2018 the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American College of Physicians held a Strategic Planning Meeting to evaluate our mission, our accomplishments, and our opportunities as a national organization for internists who promotes excellence and professionalism in the practice of Internal Medicine.
A group of over 20 physicians including ACP Council members, Residents and Fellows in Training, Internists in private practice, and Medical Students participated in an interactive meeting conducted with the assistance of the Seriously Creative Consultants Firm. The group had brainstorming sessions on key areas related to what our ACP Chapter provides to meet our mission in PR to serve the needs of our members and our community and what are the areas of opportunity to improve our current programs and services and increase the participation of our members in ACP initiatives and activities. As a result of our productive strategic planning meeting, the Chapter will be focusing on four major areas: Education, Communication within our membership and with the community, Policy Issues which affect health and the practice of Medicine in the island, and Membership involvement in the ACP programs.
Thanks to all participants for your time and valuable contribution! During our next business meeting, all chapter members will have a summary of the chapter's strategic plan.
Internal Medicine Special Interest Group Event
On September 8, 2018, the Internal Medicine Special Interest Groups of the Puerto Rico four medical schools conducted an event at Universidad Central del Caribe (UCC) for medical students who foresee Internal Medicine as their chosen practice field. Over 150 students had the opportunity of learning firsthand what Internal Medicine is about. Thanks to the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine leadership that offered their facilities, chief residents of all IM residencies in the island showcased their programs. Mrs. Nicole Fossas, Medical Student Representative to our ACP Council, conducted a recruitment campaign among the medical students. ACP promotional material was distributed in this event. As Governor, Dr. Allende provided an orientation on the mission of the American College of Physicians Puerto Rico Chapter and the membership benefits and addressed the audience on ACP as the home of internists from medical school throughout their whole professional career. It was a very informative activity.
