Candidate's Statement:
My professional career gave me the opportunity of successfully leading several professional societies into attaining a solid financial status while being recognized for the highest quality educational offerings. My background teaching medical students and residents was a natural preceding step to organizing academic activities. Physicians have to get involved in continuous education in order to remain up to date in the care of their patients. The practice of internal medicine is continuously evolving and changing. ACP members need to keep on top of these changes in order to survive. The Governor of ACP is in a privileged position to lead internists in Puerto Rico in keeping with changes in the practice of medicine by organizing regional events and re-activating the membership. I see the position as the link between the array of practice resources offerings’ at the national level and their implementation at the local level.

Candidate’s Statement:
I am very honored to be nominated for ACP PR Chapter Governor. I look forward to helping ACP continue its mission to provide education to our medical community. In these times of economical hardship and unsustainable healthcare costs, disease prevention plays a major role. Our chapter can contribute to our society by teaching our physicians about healthy lifestyles, physical activity assessment, exercise prescription, etc. We can forge alliances with other medical societies in order to improve our success in implementing these changes. Also, but not least, our residents and students can benefit of early career training in these topics, which are not covered during traditional medicine training. This will help (or at least contribute to) change our current healthcare standard practice which is disease treatment, instead of disease prevention.
