Oregon Chapter Receives a 2021 John Tooker Evergreen Award

The John Tooker Evergreen Awards Program provides recognition and visibility to chapters that have successfully implemented programs to increase membership, improve communication, increase member involvement, enhance diversity, foster careers in internal medicine and improve management of the chapter. The Oregon Chapter received a 2021 John Tooker Evergreen Award for their initiative, Growing Advocacy in Oregon.

Growing Advocacy in Oregon

Growing Advocacy in Oregon offers opportunities for health care professionals to learn how to engage in advocacy efforts benefiting patients and the internal medicine profession. The Chapters first Advocacy Day took place in February 2020. The event offers a variety of training sessions geared towards learning skills for advocacy efforts, education about ACP policy, and scheduled appointments with state legislators. An additional 2-3 advocacy modules and sessions are offered through the year for continued learning and engagement. The events help members understand local and national ACP policy and legislative priorities and learn the benefits of belonging to AIMn and how to communicate and engage with legislators outside of the state legislative session. A small group came together after the event and initiated for Chapter support for Measure 110 on the Oregon State November ballot.

Oregon: Women in Medicine Month Social Media Campaign/Initiative

Building on the success of social media to foster physician learning, teaching, mentoring, role modeling, and connectivity in new and novel ways, the Oregon Chapter dedicated their Twitter feed and Facebook posts to Women in Medicine Month and highlighted a breadth and depth of women in medicine topics, both inside and outside of Oregon, resulting in more member engagement, both in knowledge and in the volunteer hours spent developing the social media posts.

I would like to extend a special thanks to those chapter members who assisted us in all of these endeavors! For their hard work and dedication, we received this award.
