In 1999, Dr. John Kalbfleisch (former governor of Oklahoma Chapter) suggested I become a member of the American College of Physicians. He taught me the importance of leadership, mentorship and service by his example. I am seeking to become the Oklahoma Chapter Governor to pay forward those lessons learned years ago. I am an accomplished physician leader in the American College of Physicians, the state of Oklahoma and the Saint Francis Health System. I have served as chief of the staff, an academic detailer, a teacher of medical students and a regional leader in the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative. I am committed to continuing the success of the Oklahoma Chapter, developing the physician leaders of tomorrow and assuring that the renaissance of internal medicine continues.

Candidate Statement:
The American College of Physicians has been an important part of my medical career and I would like to give back to the organization. Early in my career in academic medicine, I was honored to chair the scientific program at the annual meeting. The mentorship that I received in that experience was critical to my success in future leadership roles. I see my role as helping to expand the reach of the ACP so that it can be even more beneficial for current and future internists. Having worked with residents for the last 25 years, I feel I have insight into what the internist of the future needs to support their careers, whether in private practice or in academics. Specifically, I would like to encourage ACP support in the areas of work-life balance, the integration of behavioral health into primary care, and trauma-informed care for all patients.
