Medicine faces many challenges including healthcare reform, payment restructuring, physician burnout, MOC, and the lack of interoperability of electronic health records. Members of the Board of Governors (BOG) are an integral part of the college as they represent the voices of their chapters and serve as the sounding board for ACP policy and position paper creation. My experience as the chair of the Council of Early Career Physicians, membership on HPPC, and attendance at Leadership Day make me well suited to fulfill this role on the BOG. Other unique attributes include my prior training as one of ACP’s first wellness champions and current membership on the Well-being task force. As the college develops resources and infrastructure to protect its membership from burnout, I will continue to educate and advocate for needed systematic changes. For these reasons, thank you for your consideration for governor of the Nebraska chapter of ACP.

Candidate Statement:
As an executive leader in an academic medical center with a strong background in academic medicine, I am keenly interested in the future of medical education, the ongoing improvement in the provision of medical care for all, and the enhancement of the experience physicians and other providers have in the practice of their disciplines. I will work to continue the tremendous advocacy the ACP has always provided to promote effective and efficient improvement in the delivery of medical care. Physician and other medical professional burnout must continue to be at the forefront as a priority in our organization. It is key right now to focus on the collateral impact the electronic medical record and associated burden of measurement and documentation in the clinical environment have on provider satisfaction and burnout. Finally, the voice of the physician must be increasingly heard as care models evolve and medical providers join together to form larger organizations to accept risk in value based payment models.
