New York Chapter's Urgent Call for Assistance

I hope you are all doing well as COVID-19 spreads across the nation and changes daily life for many of us.

The ACP New York Chapter asked us to share the below email broadcast they sent to their members seeking volunteers to assist in the NY COVID-19 response, and to ask you to consider sharing it with your colleagues. New York State has organized a surge physician workforce survey to collect information on physicians and other health care providers who may be available to come to NY to assist with the response to this crisis. Importantly, volunteers are welcome to NY from any state who are willing to come to help, and NY will provide transportation, housing and other support for these volunteers.

Additionally, NYACP COVID-19 resources are available here.

The New York State Department of Health Physician Volunteer form is here.

Thank you for your consideration and all your efforts during this crisis.

Mangla S. Gulati, MD, FACP Governor, ACP Maryland Chapter

March 29, 2020

NYACP Members,

Last night NYACP received a call from the office Governor Cuomo established to coordinate the COVID-19 surge physician workforce. New York is in desperate need of physician volunteers to provide care to COVID and non-COVID patients in New York City.

If you already completed the volunteer survey, thank you! NYACP has been informed that you will receive a call from a DOH coordinator this week.

If you have not yet volunteered and are available to assist, your help is vital to maintaining patient access to care. The New York State Department of Health survey for physician volunteers to sign-up to help is available here.

In response to a number of questions fielded from members by NYACP this week, NYS DOH provided the following:

Q: Do I have any control over where I will be sent?  A: Volunteers will be asked by a surge coordinator about the healthcare setting (COVID/non-COVID) that they are comfortable working in and will be allocated accordingly.

Q: Will housing be provided for volunteers?  A: Yes, housing in an area hotel will be available to all volunteers.

Q: Will I receive help with transportation?  A: Yes, transportation by Delta and Jet Blue is available for physicians and other healthcare workers volunteering for the surge.

If you have any other questions, please email them to Heather Bennett, JD, PhD, NYACP Executive Director, at and she will reply to you as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your help with this request. NYACP is deeply appreciative to all of our members for everything you are doing to care for New York's patients.
