2018 Doctor's Dilemma Competition Recap

The 21st Annual Maryland ACP Doctor's Dilemma Competition was held on February 3, 2018 during the annual chapter meeting. All of the Baltimore-area programs participated in this competition, as well as teams from the Army and Navy Chapters. When the final heat took place, we had teams from St. Agnes, Sinai and Hopkins/Broadway in a tight competition. In the end, St. Agnes took the bronze, Sinai took silver, and Johns Hopkins Broadway won the gold (yes, it is Olympics time). We were thrilled to have so many different programs involved in the competition. Congrats to the Hopkins/Broadway residents Deepak Atri, MD, Sandeep Raj, MD, Kevin Shenderov, MD, and John Woller, MD.

We also featured an IronMed Competition for Residents as part of the day’s events. Congratulations go out to Joe Maciuba, MD from Walter Reed Army (1st Place) and Jon Gray , MD(finalist) from UMMS/Midtown Campus.

At this time we want to send out special thanks to our CRAB co-chairs, Aseem Sood, MD (UMMS/Midtown), Max Puliaiev, MD (Sinai) and Garima Narayen, DO, Ramez Jabaji, MD and Ritesh Shrestha, MD (MHIM), who spent countless working with our CRAB advisor, Janaki Deepak, MBBS, FACP to ensure that the questions were correct and challenging. Thanks also to David Zolet, MD, FACP from Sinai Hospital, who has spent several years being our question "checker" to make sure that all of the questions are correct. We also extend thanks to our judges and moderators: Dobbin Chow, MD, MACP, Paul Foster, MD, FACP, Erica Johnson, MD, FACP, Sapna Kuehl, MD, FACP, William Shimeall, MD, FACP and Sanjay Desai, MD, FACP, who spent their Saturday afternoon with us to ensure that the contest was both fair and equitable.

And last but not least, we cannot thank Janaki Deepak, MBBS, FACP enough for the many hours she spends every year in organizing this event. This year, she even opened her home and hosted two CRAB co-chairs meeting, where all of the questions were reviewed and categorized.

Finally, we have to thank all of our programs, who not only come up with the questions for the categories, but ensure that their resident teams are prepared for this event. This is my last year as Governor for the ACP Maryland Chapter. I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of our programs that have been instrumental in ensuring that this event grows with each passing year.

Kudos to all of you. Please view some photos that give the flavor of this amazing event! We thank you all!
