Candidate Bios

Candidate Statement: As a practicing primary care internist, I am affected daily by policies, procedures, and entities that can make it difficult to care for patients. For the past 25 years, I have tried to help shape the practice of internal medicine in Iowa through my involvement in ACP in the hope of improving patient care and lessening some of these bureaucratic burdens. I have been to Leadership Day on Capitol Hill several times, educating our government leaders and bringing a positive change to our profession to make it easier to provide efficient, high quality care to our patients. I have held positions on several committees in the hopes of continuing to influence the direction of our practice. Practicing medicine is my passion, and I would be privileged to continue to use my leadership skills and knowledge to improve the health of the citizens of Iowa and bring joy to our profession.

Candidate Statement: Over this past year and a half, I served as one of five executive leaders in our independent practice, guiding our group through financial challenges and ultimately integrating with a larger organization. Through this experience, I have gained valuable skills to navigate the changing landscape of internal medicine. Beyond the local level, we continue to see the growing challenge of misinformation, as highlighted in the convocation speech at ACP New Orleans this year. I have participated in advocacy for evidence-based medicine through direct engagement with our legislators. I would be honored to represent the Iowa chapter as governor to help support real world practice and preserve the future of our specialty.
