2019 Governor-elect Election Biographical Sketch and Candidate Statement - California Northern

The ballots for the current Governors-elect election have been mailed. The voting membership (Masters, Fellows, Members, and Resident/Fellow Members with an elect date of 9/1/2017 or earlier) can vote online or mail-in ballot.

You will need your mailed ballot or election email containing your ACP Member Number and Election Passcode in order to vote. Below are the bios and statements of the candidates that are running in this election. Online voting begins on September 20, 2019 and will end on November 8, 2019 at 11:59 PM Eastern. Candidate Statement:
Dear Colleagues: I hereby express my intention to be elected as the next Governor of our great Chapter. I am the current Specialty Care Medical Director at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, San Jose, with Operational oversight on the Valley Specialty Center, and a host of clinical departmental Chairs and clinical center Medical Directors. Prior to joining SCVMC, I was the Director of Hospital Medicine, Chief of Medicine Service and Associate Chief of Staff at Iron Mountain VA Medical Center in Michigan from 2009, during which period I briefly served as the acting Chief of Staff for the HCS. I transferred to California in 2012 as the Medical Director for Emergency dept. and Associate Chief for Primary Care Service, and briefly served as acting Chief of Staff for the Healthcare system during a very critical period in the VA history. I hope to bring to our ACP Chapter Leadership my profound experience in system redesign, access, quality and performance improvement.

Candidate Statement:
As one your CA ACP Board Members since 2009, along with being your Immediate Past President and Well-being Champion, practicing addiction medicine for over 10 years, a large part of my work has been dedicated to advocacy work in these pressing areas of physician well-being and education around substance use disorders including opioid related issues. As part of the ACP Healthcare and Public Policy Committee, I serve as Delegate to the California Medical Association advocating for increasing transparency in health plans and reducing paperwork for prior authorization. I have worked with my ACP colleagues to get internal medicine agenda heard at the State legislature and have also co-authored an ACP resolution on physician re-integration after impairment which was passed and resulted in an ACP Position Paper on this topic published June 4 of this year. In addition to promoting the great work ACP is known for in Medical Education, I hope to inspire medical trainees and early career physicians to become involved in advocacy work so that we remain empowered to direct our future growth.
