Candidate Statement:
Consumer-driven health care has arrived or will be coming soon to a locale near you. The challenge for physicians will be adapting and collaborating with this new wave to protect those time-tested traditions of medical practice that preserve clinical excellence and patient safety while facilitating access to care via more efficient patient-centered options (e.g. telehealth, etc.). ACP has done a great job at promoting evidence-based medicine and professionalism. We need to ensure that those values remain part of the next generation of health care delivery. I will be an advocate for these values so that the future physicians of America are not disinter-mediated by forces outside the profession. Such will require engaging those forces and leveraging mutual goals, while advocating in our legislatures where appropriate. At the Region 1 level, I hope to outreach more of our members to get their involvement on issues that can ensure the respect of our profession and promote us as patient advocates.
