Hello!
I begin my term as ACP Arizona Governor by thanking Dr. Rob Aaronson for his dedicated service and leadership and guidance for the last four years. Rob has shown significant devotion and commitment to our profession and the house of organized medicine.
I return from the National ACP meeting energized and motivated. Our chapter recognized fifty new fellows from Arizona. During the convocation, I had the privilege of walking with some of the fellows. I was awed by the distinction that the fellowship represents: of integrity, professionalism and scholarship. I look forward to working with our distinguished membership to continue mentoring students, residents and new attendings to continue to build the sense of community and address the challenges that we face.
These are very difficult times for our profession, our physician community has the opportunity to lead and work on finding solutions to the big problems that face our patients - especially access to care, costs of care and health care inequity, the burnout epidemic, loss of physician autonomy and reemergence of old diseases that are preventable.
We have to commit to better self-care and care of each other and address inequity at the workplace. We have to reaffirm the need to ensure that along with technology and innovation, we value cognition in health care delivery. Lastly but most importantly we have to ensure that education, especially for our trainees, meets their needs as well as that our patients and communities.
My focus areas for the first year are to engage our membership, advocate for our patients and profession and continue to provide high-quality educational programs. Our chapter needs the active participation of our membership. Please feel free to send me a message with any concerns or areas that you feel need attention. Together we can continue to work on the big issues of our time.
