From the Governor
Time for an update on some Alaska ACP news and activities!
We now have a chapter Strategic Plan, drafted by our Strategic Planning Committee this past spring with assistance from facilitator Tom Cooney, MD, MACP and Professor of Medicine at OHSU. The plan was finalized this fall, with a plan to review and update it annually. The plan will be posted to our chapter website soon!
MOC Module Opportunity on Nov, 19, 2016
Remember that nice, two-hour MOC module, presented at our most recent chapter meeting? Chris Knight, MD, FACP and Julie McCormick, MD, FACP have agreed to present another of these in November! It's a fun, sociable, and educational activity which will assist you in obtaining 10 MOC points (with 2 associated CME credits) from ABIM.
This session will be held in the UAA/ WWAMI classroom of the UAA Medical Science Building on Saturday, Nov 19, 2016, 9:00-11:00. Watch for additional registration details coming via email and website soon, or call Julie Lake (907-350-2351) for additional info. Sorry, this does not carry CME credit for non ABIM-certified individuals; we will work on that for next year!
Annual Chapter Meeting
Planning is underway for our annual chapter meeting, another joint meeting with the Alaska Osteopathic Medical Association. The dates will be April 20-22, 2017, again at the Sheraton Hotel in Anchorage. Our keynote speaker will be Steven E. Weinberger, MD, FRCP, MACP, Associate Executive Vice President of the College. In addition to his keynote address about the past and future of Internal Medicine, Dr. Weinberger will speak about progress with MOC, an area where he has advocated for significant change, and will give a case-based presentation regarding the management of pulmonary diseases. Numerous other outstanding speakers will be featured as well; watch for upcoming program announcements!
Transition to new AK ACP Governor
Julie McCormick, MD, FACP, currently Governor-elect for our chapter, will become our new chapter Governor on April 1, 2017, at the time of Internal Medicine 2017 in San Diego.
Internal Medicine 2017 in San Diego
Internal Medicine 2017 will be held in San Diego on March 30-April 1, 2017. All recently elected fellows (within the past 3 years) are invited to march in the Convocation on Thus, March 30. Please consider attending, including the Pacific Northwest reception on Friday, March 31; this is a great opportunity for CME, networking, socializing, learning, and fun!
