Vision Statement:
Our current health care system will be reformed in some fashion and it will be the responsibility of physicians - especially internists - to insure that the principles and ideals that led us to choose this profession will not be compromised. The ACP - at the state and national level - has a unique opportunity to insure that 1) access to appropriate health care is not compromised nor is mandated by those who do not have a full appreciation of the physician - patient relationship 2) that the ACP must provide support to those physicians who provide comprehensive, cost effective, evidence based medicine. As Governor, I would endeavor to make the Alabama Chapter more vocal and visible to patients and policy makers in this climate of change. Other goals are 1) to promote internal medicine as a career choice for medical students and 2) to incorporate hospitalists to become active in the local ACP chapter.
