Mexico Chapter - New Governor

Congratulations to the New Mexican Chapter Governor, Guillermo José Ruiz Argüelles, MD, MACP. His term as Governor began on May 7, 2016 with term expiring in April 2020. As Governor, Dr. Ruiz will serve as the official representative of the College for the Mexican Chapter, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level. Guillermo José Ruiz Argüelles, MD, MACP

EDUCATION: Medical Doctor degree in the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi, Mexico (1976); resident in Internal Medicine in the Instituto Nacional de la Nutricion Salvador ZUBIRAN / Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (1980); resident in Hematology in the Instituto Nacional de la Nutrición Salvador ZUBIRAN / Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (1982)

POST DOCTORAL TRAINING: Fogarty Foundation post-doctoral research fellow in Hematology in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester MN, USA (1983).

CERTIFICATION: Mexican Board of Internal Medicine (to 2020) and Mexican Board of Hematology (to 2020)

PRESENT POSITION: Director General, Centro de Hematología y Medicina Interna. Under director of Research, Laboratorios Clínicos de Puebla. Professor in Hematology, Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla. Professor in Hematology, Universidad de las Américas Puebla.

ACP CHAPTER INVOLVEMENT/LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES: Member of the Academia Nacional de Medicina de México - National Academy of Medicine - , of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores - National Research System, level III (highest) - , of the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias - National Academy of Sciences - and of the Comisión de Investigación en Salud de México - Mexican Health Research Committee - . Elected Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumnus in 2011.

ACP NATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Fellow of the ACP since 1990. Professor on several symposia of the Mexican Chapter of the ACP. "México Region Laureate Award 1996". Master of the ACP in 2013.

OTHER APPOINTMENTS/ACTIVITIES: Past-president, Asociación de Medicina Interna de México; Past-president, Agrupación Mexicana para el Estudio de la Hematología; President of the Mexican Chapter of the Mayo Alumni Association (2008-2013); Member of the Board of Directors of the Mayo Alumni Association (2009-2015); Secretary General of the Inter-American Division, Chair of Council, and President of the International Society of Hematology (2010-2012); Member of the Committee on Educational Affairs and of the ad hoc Committee on International Outreach of the American Society of Hematology. Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and of the American Society of Hematology.
