Governor's Message
This year's Internal Medicine meeting in New Orleans was another success with over 9,000 delegates from around the world along with 253 Canadians. As always, the education was excellent, and I encourage you to take the opportunity to participate in future meetings.
For those who missed this year's meeting, there is still a chance to benefit. Purchase recordings from over 170 scientific sessions and obtain the latest scientific content presented by renowned faculty. Recordings are perfect for updating your knowledge, wherever you are or while on the run. Click here to order.

The annual convocation ceremony is always a highlight of the Internal Medicine Meeting. I was proud to lead the Canadian contingent of new Fellows at Convocation in New Orleans. In addition to the educational strength of our organization, peer recognition through Fellowship and Mastership is a particular benefit. I urge you to nominate worthy colleagues.
Canada was again well represented at the ACP Doctor's Dilemma® Competition in New Orleans. Teams from Ontario, Alberta, the Atlantic Provinces and Quebec competed. Congratulations to the Ontario Chapter and the Atlantic Provinces Chapter for making it to the semi-final round.
Remember to mark your calendars for our Chapter's Annual Scientific Meeting October 10-13, 2018 in Banff, Alberta. Click here to view the preliminary program. Residents and students can submit abstracts until June 6, 2018.
The Chapter has experienced significant engagement and growth in several areas this year. The inaugural meeting of the IMP/ACP Student Internal Medicine Club took place on the March 7th, 2018. A lively evening of discussion and Q&A with early, mid and long-career ACP panel members ensued with a full house. By my count we have 80 New Members this year, reflecting the vigour of our organization. Thank you to all our committee and support members.
The BC ACP Chapter (and your Governor) is sponsoring and providing the Critical Care Day on July 5th for the UBC Department of Medicine GIM Resident/Fellow Boot Camp (details through the Department).

ACP’S Work in Physician Wellness
Recent data show that more than half of US physicians have symptoms of burnout. In response to this, ACP is in the midst of a multi-year effort to promote professional satisfaction, support physician wellness, and reduce burnout. Courses are being offered at the national ACP Internal Medicine meetings on work-life balance, resilience, burnout, and wellness.
The American Medical Association, in partnership with the ACP and the Hennepin County Medical Center, has developed Steps Forward, modules addressing key steps to help prevent burnout. For additional resources, please click here.
