Namin Kassam, BSc, MD, MHPE, FRCPC, FACP, ACP Governor
It has been a busy summer and fall with lots of activity at ACP, both nationally and locally. The Canadian Chapters, led by Quebec Governor Dr. Nadine Lahoud, were delighted to host the fall 2017 Board of Governors meeting held in Montreal, Quebec. The event was widely enjoyed as the Governors got an opportunity to highlight Canadian culture and accomplishment to our American and International colleagues.
L-R: Dr. David Anderson (Atlantic Provinces); Dr. Narmin Kassam (AB); (No introduction required!); Dr. Nadine Lahoud (QC); Dr. Glen Drobot (MB-SASK); Dr. Irene Hramiak (ON); Dr. Michael Kenyon (BC).
At a local level, the monthly medical jeopardy competitions continue to be a highlight at the University of Alberta. The ACP continues to support internal medicine medical student activities at both sites. These events have resulted in significant growth in student and resident memberships in Alberta over the past year.
The six Canadian Chapters hosted a Canadian Doctor's Dilemma competition during the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine/ACP Ontario Annual Meeting in November. Eight teams from different Canadian universities competed, including the Universities of Alberta and Calgary. After an entertaining and fast-paced competition, the University of Toronto took first place. Honourable mention to the University of Calgary who placed second. Stay tuned for details on next years' competition at CSIM 2018 which will be held in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain/ACP conference October 10-13, 2018 in Banff.
It is a great pleasure and honour to announce that Dr. Peter Hamilton has been elected by the members of the Alberta Chapter to serve as Governor-elect Designee. Dr. Hamilton will start his term as Governor-elect after the Annual Business Meeting in New Orleans on April 21, 2018 and will take office as Governor in April of 2019. View his biography. I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Jeff Schaefer for his ongoing efforts as Treasurer and hard work for the Alberta Chapter.
Finally, we look forward to hosting a Canadian Chapters reception at the ACP Internal Medicine meeting in New Orleans on April 20, 2018. Until then, happy holidays, all the best for 2018 and stay warm!
